Tamieka
Thomasson serves as the director of educational
services for The Reginald
S. Lourie Centers Lourie Center School (LCS),
a Maryland State
Department of Education (MSDE) accredited non-public
school that serves
children with complex emotional and developmental
problems. She also
oversees the Before and After School Program. Since
2005, Tamieka has
managed and overseen the LCS, with responsibilities
including but not
limited to developing and maintaining policies in
adherence with MSDE,
assisting with staff recruitment, overseeing implementation
of the
students individualized education plans (IEPs)
and overseeing
day-to-day operations of the LCS.
Tamieka
joined the LCS in 1998 as an assistant teacher.
Within the
next two years, Tamiekas level of responsibility
increased as she
became a lead teacher in the school; developing
curriculums, conducting
student psycho-educational assessments, monitoring
IEPs, developing
individualized material for classrooms and providing
in-service training
to LCS staff. Prior to joining the Lourie Center,
Tamieka was a
teachers assistant and lower camp director
for Barrie Day School in
Silver Spring, Maryland. Tamieka also served as
special education
advocate for James E. Brown & Associates, PLLC,
a law firm that assists
families and children with identifying the childrens
special
education needs within the educational system in
order to provide them
with an appropriate academic setting.
Tamieka
earned a bachelors degree in human development
with a minor
in early childhood education from Howard University.
She received her
masters degree in education and human development
with a
concentration on early childhood special education
from The George
Washington University. Tamieka has advanced professional
certification
from MSDE in generic special education, infant through
grade eight.
